Saas Fee lies in a valley and is encircled by 13, 4000 metre peaks which with the glaciers encircle the village like a shell and give its distinctive name as the ’Pearl of the Alps’. It is an Alpine village of great charm and character. Nestled on a plateau at 1800m, the village is car free, snow sure and surrounded on all sides by the most spectacular scenery found anywhere in the Swiss Alps. It is the sister resort of Zermatt but is significantly less expensive, with the enviable reputation as a resort where ‘the Swiss prefer to ski’. It is un-spoilt, un-pretentious and comfortable with its unassuming image.
Saas Fee‘s award winning pistes have a vertical drop of 1800 metres, a top elevation of 3550m and covers over 100km. Further pistes are planned with major upgrades planned for the lift system which will extend the ski areas further and possibly eventually link the village to neighbouring Zermatt. The initial plans are to extend the lift system to 3990 metres, creating the highest lift station in the Alps, and unlocking the ski area to views of the iconic Matterhorn and Italian lakes.
There is a huge selection of bars, restaurants and shops, numerous nightclubs and a cinema. The apres ski is excellent starting in the lively bars close to the lifts, live music in Poison or the cooler Poison bar. For the non-skier there is an ice rink, a sports and leisure complex and many hotels offer extensive health and wellness facilities.
The chalet itself is located at the ski slope end of the village, with an elevated south facing aspect overlooking the village towards the mountains and pistes. The views are breathtaking and worth the short climb through the village. The chalet is just a 5 minute walk from the church located in the village square and a 15 minute walk from the car park at the entrance to the village. .
